The occupational structure highlights the distribution of total working population of an economy. The working population is categorized on the basis of three sectors i.e.

Agricultural or Private Sector- It comprises of individuals who are involved in agriculture and related activities such as fishing and mining.

Industrial or Secondary Sector – This is the manufacturing sector and includes all large and small scale industries.

Tertiary or Service Sector – This particular division includes various services such as banking, buy and sell, transport, communication etc.

The recent statistics bring to light the fact that in undeveloped or developing countries, a large proportion of working population is engaged in agriculture whereas on the other hand, in case of developed countries a large number of individuals derive there earnings from industrial sector.
